TV Commercials

September 3, 2008 – 6:11 pm

It may be my memory but it seems that TV commericals have been getting longer and longer as compared to a decade ago. It would be very interesting to see a plot of the length of the average commercial break over the past few decades – I think we’ll see that the length of the average commercial break has drastically increased.

In addition, it seems as if there are no commerical breaks between consecutive TV shows anymore. Clearly this is a way to keep us from turning off the TV and doing something productive with our lives.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

I'm not a big fan of TV (actually I don't even bother to have cable installed at home), but at some point I was fascinated with commercials trying to find and download all sorts of commercials with original ideas. Although most of commercials are plain, there're actually plenty of good ones out there that can inspire me just like a spark, and with youtube these days you have even more choices other than just sitting and wasting your time in front of TV.

Here's some good ones if you want to check out:

Yea I barely watch TV. It's too much of a time waste but I think people have been getting more and more sucked into TV watching so it would be curious if the actual commercials have been getting longer and longer as well.
